Flores was everything I hoped it would be and more. I had two days off staying there. One to do the day trip out to Tikal ruins and the other kayak across the lake to the famous rope swing, which surprisingly I did.....many times.
The two days were a highlight of my trip so far, largely because of the group of people I shared it with, Kevin and Sarah were a Irish couple I'd met before crossing the boarder from Belize and then my old pal Andrew that I spent some time with in Bacalar caught up to me after and few weeks spent with family up in Cancun.
Tikal was all great, our guide Hiro was brilliant. I don't usually go for the tour option with these things but I was certainly glad I did this time. Hiro was Mayan himself and was also studying Archeology, there wasn't a question he didn't have an answer for or a block of limestone he didn't know a fact about. Just a brilliant day.
There was also a Mexico guy in my group that had had 100 beers before he got on the bus, great viewing to watch his negotiate the many trails and steps we wet up and down.
The day at the rope swing was so fun!! Just hired a kayak and paddled the 30 mins to get there. There were a couple of other groups that came and went throughout the arvo.
I got some great footage.
Time to go hard now!! Really in the mood to get stuck into the next 246kms stint to Semuc Champey. I know of a couple towns with accommodation options, but camping will be required. Can't wait.
