Day 36 - 39km

Today I ran from Rocka Blanco to Puerto Escondido, although both spots are beautiful, they certainly have a different vibe. Rocka Blanco is deserted. I was literally the only visitor there. I would imagine there would only be about 30 beds abalone in the whole cove. I was visiting on a Tuesday in the middle of low season however, I'm sure it would get a decent flow of tourist in the high season, if not to stay certainly just on day trips from Puerto Escondido.

Puerto on the other hand is a tourist giant, with over 500 hotels, and 100's of tourist shops and eateries, it is a popular place to visit all year round although not over crowded in the slightest.

I ended up staying in a hostel about 200m off the highway and 300m from the beach next door to the tourist centre. It's a great place. I had an idea of its quality after looking at Hostelworld.com and it featured up the top of the lost for traveller reviews.

My run today was for the most part long a lagoon or its surrounding wetlands. It was a different environment than i had run through the before. Lots of water on each side of the highway, thousands of birds and other wildlife.

I past plenty of boats filled with seated tourist and a tour guide waving his arm around in all different directions. It made me feel like I was getting to see the best of Mexico without and tour guide needed.

Coming into Puerto the traffic increased and the highway became 2 lanes wide which makes it far easier to run along.

This is another leg of my journey done and I still coincided myself on schedule. I'm sure I will fall behind at some point but it is nice know the planning I had done was not all for nothing.

I spend the afternoon sitting in the hammock, chatting with other travellers and swimming at the beach. I can't help but feel that my experience of Mexico is rather different to most others, this is of course the way in which I am travelling it but, beach, beers and tours would not be three words that come to mind for my last 4 week on the road.

850km done!!

Tomorrow will be a rest day and then I will see how my body is whether I decided to take a second day off and make it a decent break. My left led certainly needs at least one day off running and my mind probably needs a day to switch off as well
